For some of us it feels a bit uncomfortable…others thrive on the idea of sharing their time with others not like them. I often lean toward mixed company or eccentric crowds but also a variety of textures in my nest. A little bit of this…a little bit of that when done right can be smart. Lately, I’ve been contemplating the appearance of an undressed chair. The gentleman with his pants on the ground that sold it to me for $15 (it’s sometimes worth waiting until the end of the flea especially if it’s lined with yummy food trucks) was not fond of lugging it back to his place so lucky me (hip-hip hurray!) It’s in mint condition even the upholstery was flawless, though I knew I would change the neutral to something cheekier. However, a few moves later and I still am hesitant to take a stab at it since it remains in a transient state—who knows where our next move will ship us and if there is a need for this one’s-trash-to-my-treasure find. It’s a straightforward upholstery modification since the seat and backrest are disconnected and there’s no need to meticulously align the fabrics, yet not knowing their destiny I decided to adorn it with a faux fur rug and a nifty pillow instead.
I knew I was hankering toward the dark side so I dyed the rug and complimented it with a favorite plush pillow. While it may not steal the show, it certainly sits in a better evolutionary place and feels more inviting. My love for bohemian tradition, sidewalk cafes, friends bearing different opinions to my own and a dedication to art and beauty lured me to this juncture with this chair, the starting point for the room. While I have a long way to go, I am in no hurry, I’ll just sit back and enjoy what I have created so far…who knows maybe an area rug to ground the space will be next. Do you relish mixing and matching or would you rather play it safe in your nest? Remember it doesn’t have to happen all at once, enjoy the process and let your style emerge slowly as you settle into your nest.
Looks more comfy now. Add a book and a cup of tea, and you’re good to go!

You read my mind! As I was scrolling through the shots, I thought why didn’t I make a warm cup of tea to accompany the seat. The books are not far way either, oh well, time is never on my side these days.
Enjoy a cozy seat in your nest today.

Love how comfy this project turned out! Love this chair so much. Really impressed with your skill of dying as well. Would be way too scared to make a mess. Does the color rub off at all when it’s sat on? I just recently bought myself a chair for the corner as a reading nook and am in love. I bought a fake sheepskin and put it on the chair for that extra level of coziness 🙂

Thank you. I used a plastic bin and gloves so there was no mess. The color does not rub off. If you have any reservations, I would suggest using the washing machine, the dye won’t stain the stainless steel and then you’ll get a good rinse and spin. If the material is made of any synthetics, then the dye will be harder to absorb, even if you soak for days which I tried it still won’t take (maybe I needed to use less water or more dye.) Enjoy the warmth of the sheepskin.

Yes, that’s how we roll in this nest…until we reach a final destination there will be a whole lot of shuffling around of objects. Hope this encourages you to consider redoing items in your nest before you give up on them.

I’m very eclectic in my tastes and interests and I always admire the more Bohemian styles, although I don’t think I have the best artistic sense to pull it off! I love your photos. I’m catching up on your many, many posts that I’ve missed Cristina. I just “unfollowed” and “followed” you again. Your posts have not been showing up in my feed or in my email feed. I was getting suspicious and could have checked before now, but for the last two months I have spent very little time blogging. I am really shocked at how much I have missed as you’ve posted quite a few! Now I need to get caught up. 🙂 And figure out why I haven’t been getting your notifications. Hmmmm.

Oh Debra I’m sorry your feed wasn’t alerting you, sounds bizarre. Maybe it was meant to be that you took a break to breathelighter. Yes, something is always happening around here, so happy you are back. I think if it feels good to you than who’s to say it’s not artistic or interesting. Happy styling your way!
