And, it starts small, with a little bet. It’s really that simple and that hard. The world needs your creativity and passion now more than ever. With all the challenges facing our country and world, we need a creative revolution, one driven by the unleashing of millions of previously undiscovered creative talents, talents that will also allow us to be infinitely more human and original.” –Peter Sims
Summer has officially arrived and commencement ceremonies have unleashed all giddy graduates into the pool of the rush-and-make-something-of-ourselves life. It’s a time of hope, nervousness and uncontainable excitement for us all. How will you kick off your summer or the beginning of your new adult life?
My wise advice to fledglings is to start in your nest. Whether or not you know what you want or what you will be contributing to the universe at least make a conscious effort to be true to yourself and start with something amusing, lighthearted and inspirational—art. Whether it’s something you invest in because it resonates with you or something you created yourself, incorporate it in your nest or workspace.
Buy or arrange artwork in your nest only if it expresses what you aspire to. Does is move in the direction you want to move? Do the pieces make liberal use of color that reflect your aspirations and your sensibility? Accent colors that lift your hopes, concerns or family goals—black for career success, green for health and family life or purple for wealth and fortune.
How does a piece of art make you feel? Vivid and bold in the living room is great because it makes you feel alert and lively. In the bedroom, however, it would not be prudent to bring those qualities into your restful sanctuary where abstract art with a dreamlike quality would be the more apropos.
What does your artwork say about your voice, your intuition, your divine guidance? What you display will correlate to how you communicate–how will you use symbols and art in your nest to propel you in life?
“So…be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O’Shea, you’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So…get on your way!” —Dr. Seuss
